An auditor for a stylish New York City hotel chain has been indicted for allegedly stealing guests' credit-card information
and selling it to a man accused of using it to buy $840,000 worth of
airline tickets and other items, the Associated Press reports.
The Manhattan district attorney's office says 237 guest credit-card accounts were compromised over three years, the AP reports.
The indicted hotel auditor, Lukasz Kruk, 27, worked for Amsterdam Hospitality Group, which runs eight hotels including the chic, four-star Empire Hotel across from Lincoln Center that's popular with celebrities.
Prosecutors say that Kruk had access to guests' credit card information and personal identifying information from "certain" hotels, the Manhattan district attorney's press release says.
Kruk and Barry Herndon, 47, on Friday pleaded not guilty to grand larceny, identity theft and other charges, the AP story says. Herndon is accused of using the information to buy airline tickets from Delta and American for himself and other travelers.
