Regent Bali Announces General Manager Murray Aitken

Regent Hotels & Resorts names Murray L. Aitken General Manager of the Regent Bali, a $100 million luxury resort and residences scheduled to open June 2012 in the Sanur District of Bali, Indonesia.
A South African national, Aitken’s extensive hospitality experience includes appointments with Raffles and Swissotel in Southeast Asia, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts in Jakarta and the Caribbean, a luxurious beach resort in Dubai, Kerzner’s legendary Palace of the Lost City in Sun City, and Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa. During his time with Raffles in Singapore, the hotel was awarded the TIME Magazine Business Hotel of the Year Asia.
Most recently, Aitken was General Manager at Leading Hotels of the World’s Fancourt Hotel & Spa on South Africa’s Garden Route. There, he oversaw a $10 million renovation to the historic Manor House and launched it as an all-suite boutique hotel, while also upgrading the restaurant concepts throughout the hotel and golf and residential estate.
Aitken returns to Asia to head up the opening team of Regent Bali. The 95-key resort will feature four acres of tropical gardens and greenery with two hundred metres of silky island beach. Room categories include spacious Studio Suites, Deluxe Suites, Spa Suites and a Regent Suite, all with butler service and 180-degree views of the ocean. The resort will also feature 25 luxurious Regent Residences.
The dining and entertainment outlets at the Regent Bali will marry the resort’s magnificent ocean views and tropical setting, with two indoor/outdoor setting restaurants serving local delicacies with both Asian and International flair as well as a lobby lounge and library lounge. Additional resort amenities will include a large infinity pool literally on the ocean, a children’s pool, a kid’s club, fitness centre and a sunken luxurious Spa with rooftop reflecting pools. The resort will also offer a range of water sports and activities delving into local Balinese culture and history.
“I am thrilled to return to Asia to work with such an iconic brand,” Aitken said. “Regent has a deep history in and ties to the Asia region, and I’m delighted to open such an incredible resort in this unparalleled destination.”
“We are pleased to have Murray Aitken head up the team at the new Regent Bali,” commented Ralf Ohletz, President of Regent Hotels & Resorts. “This is a major resort opening and a monumental time for the brand.”
