The life story of this mathematician from Patna is an inspiring one. And now, 38-year-old math whiz Anand Kumar’s life is set to hit the big screen in the form of a biopic, which is being planned by filmmaker Anurag Basu. “I have strong intentions to make this film. I have also visited Anand
twice in Patna. The subject is very special, so I have done some research too,” confirms Basu.
At the same time, the Life In A Metro (2007) director denies rumours of Ranbir Kapoor starring in it. At the moment, the actor is currently shooting for Basu’s rom-com Barfii opposite Priyanka Chopra. Reiterating on the matter, he says, “It’s (rumour of Ranbir acting in the biopic) not true. I haven’t written the script yet. Things are still at the research stage and the film is far from going on the floors. There’s no story or screenplay. First, there will be research. Then, the story and screenplay will be worked on.”
Interestingly, Basu was also supposed to start work on a biopic on late legend Kishore Kumar. But apparently, that film won’t be kicked off anytime soon either, considering a lot of research and pre-production work is yet to be done.
Right now, all Basu wants to focus on is Barfii, which also stars south star Ileana D’Cruz. But hasn’t the film been delayed since it is reportedly being shot in parts? “Not really. That’s the nature of Barfii. It has to be shot in different parts. It isn’t a one-set or one-location film. The film’s story keeps travelling. So, I have to shoot at different places at different points of time,” he insists.
The super 30 man!
The mathematician, Anand Kumar, is known for his Super 30 programme that he started in Patna. As part of it, he coaches economically backward students for IIT-JEE exams. Kumar had secured admission to Cambridge University, but could not go due to his father’s death, and his financial condition. He completed his education while helping his mother sell papads. He is famously called ‘the Super 30 man.’
