E Healthcare to showcase the power of 'technologies for healthier lives' at Arab Health 2012

GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of GE (NYSE: GE), will underline the power of "technologies for healthier lives" through a showcase of its latest technologies, services and solutions at Arab Health 2012, the Middle East's premier healthcare exhibition to be held from January 23 to 26 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center.

GE Healthcare will put the spotlight on its healthymagination initiative - a commitment to help reduce the cost of healthcare while increasing access and improving quality, which enables the Middle East region to address its two key challenges - growing incidence of lifestyle diseases and rising healthcare costs.

Aziz Koleilat, General Manager at GE Healthcare in the Middle East region, said: "We are pleased to participate in this year's Arab Health - a dynamic platform which enables us to interact with the various key stakeholders in the region's healthcare sector, and take forward our innovative ideas that can have a transformational impact on our society's overall health and contribute to a better quality of living."

The healthcare expenditure as a percentage of the GDP of the GCC region at 3.8% is well below the global average of 10%*. On the other hand, the incidence of lifestyle diseases is growing, with all the GCC countries currently exceeding the global average obesity ratio for both men and women. The six countries are also among the Top 12 globally for diabetes prevalence.

Koleilat added: "Statistics around lifestyle diseases reflect the necessity for engagement of our private and public sector partners, as well as the large cross-section of regional researchers and students to address the requirements of the region, and create need-based solutions - which aligns with GE Healthcare's approach. We remain committed to continuing to invest in invention with a focus on better patient outcomes."

According to recent reports, the healthcare services market in the GCC is projected to grow at an average 11.4% to $43.9bn by 2015 from an estimated $25.6bn in 2010. The region is investing heavily in healthcare infrastructure, with the current investments valued at more than $10.2bn.

GE Healthcare has several decades of presence in the Middle East region, and its technologies support an overwhelming majority of hospitals. Now in its 37th year, Arab Health is expected to host over 70,000 healthcare professionals, and will feature over 3,000 companies from around the world.
