Strumming their way to success

Strings have been in the music industry for more than a decade. Faisaal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood restarted the band in the year 2000. "We originally started in 1990, but then took a break for two to three years," says Faisaal.

Since 2000, they have performed in many countries and India is one of their favorite destinations for a performance. Do they find any difference between different places and audiences? "There is definitely a change, you always learn at every venue and every concert, there is a different experience each time you perform in a different city," he says. "We love performing live, you can see the band's energy on stage," he adds. When they were a college band, Strings wanted to conquer the music world. "But when we actually started out we were nervous. But now we have 20 years of practice and hard work. So when we go on stage, we enjoy with the audiences," Faisaal says.

Faisaal talks about his first performance in India. "We were new to the place, just starting out and making fans. We were in Pune and after the show a lady came upto us and said that she liked our music. Later she told us that she was Amitabh's mom. We were super excited to know that even Amitabh was in the crowd listening to us. The Strings duo Bilal and Faisaal grew up listening to Indian classical and Bollywood music. "It was a refreshing idea to know that Bollywood stars were listening to our music," says Faisaal. Indian artists they admire include RD Burman and Kishore Kumar among others.

In Pakistan reality music shows are a big fade, what is Strings take on reality shows? "They are great initiative and it is a great concept. There is actual contribution to the music industry and we get new collaborations, there are also different genres that people get to hear," Faisaal says
