luxury automotive manufacturer Jaguar gave the region's fashionistas a sneak preview of what the judges will be looking for at this year's Jaguar Style Stakes at an exclusive fashion preview event held at the Meydan Racecourse.
The event, which took place on Thursday 16th February, was
presented in conjunction with renowned stylist Mandi Kingsbury, and
included a fashion show previewing the latest racewear looks from O
Concept boutique and the reveal of the full judging line-up for this
year's Jaguar Style Stakes, taking place at Dubai World Cup on 31st
March 2012.
The Jaguar Style Stakes, a must for any self-respecting fashionista, is one of the region's most hotly anticipated events for fashion trend setters, with the winner securing a 2012 Jaguar XK convertible for a year.
This year's judging panel brings expertise from Dubai's creative, fashion and luxury industries, including Nicola Gibson (Jaguar MENA Marketing Manager), Simon Locke (Creative Director, Dubai Fashion Week), Alistair Mulhall (Style Editor, Esquire Middle East) and Furne One (Dubai based designer and owner of Amato Haute Couture).
The Jaguar Style Stakes judges will critique some of UAE's most stylish men and women competing for a place in the below categories:
• Best Dressed Lady
• Best Dressed Man
• Best Dressed Couple
• Best Hat
• Most Creative Hat (NEW!)
• Most Elegant Lady (NEW!)
Judges will be on the lookout for style, originality, attention to detail, as well as appropriateness of the outfit for the race day.
Internationally renowned stylist, Mandi Kingsbury offered style tips on what the judges are looking for:
• Hats/fascinators are essential for ladies
• Style and originality
• Grooming and deportment
• Coordination of ensemble
• Nude, pastel, lime green and off white colors are key this season
• Go for elegant close toe heels or sandals
• Dramatic clutches are a must-have but should not be too heavy or Chanel inspired bags to sling around your neck
• Statement necklaces with a simple dress, if you are brave enough to carry it
The following list, whilst not exhaustive, would be considered inappropriate:
• Bare heads (hat or fascinator is essential)
• Revealing attire (i.e. miniskirts/dresses, plunging necklines, bare midriff, or clothing made of see-through materials, visible underwear)
• Evening gowns
• Arriving late
• Sunglasses on stage
• Jeans or trainers (a big racing fashion no-no)
• Clothing that resembles nightclub wear
This year's Jaguar Style Stakes competition is expected to attract even more participants as Dubai's increasingly style conscious racegoers battle it out for the fantastic prizes on offer. Prizes for the 2012 Jaguar Style Stakes include the sporting Jaguar XK convertible for a year or a weekend, the hottest new smartphone about to be launched by HTC, NSTYLE pamper packages, resort dining and stays at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa and The Meydan Hotel.

2012 introduces two new categories to the competition. 'Most Creative Hat' and 'Most Elegant Lady'.
Most Creative Hat will be judged in the Style Arena and judges will be looking for original pieces displaying distinct creativity in their head pieces.
Most Elegant Lady will be selected by style spotters as guests arrive at the Meydan Grandstand. The winner will be presented with a ladies' watch from the Longines Saint-Imier Collection. With a diameter of 26 mm, this model in steel and rose gold displays a white mother-of-pearl dial and is set with 60 diamonds.
This year for the first time, entrants for Jaguar Style Stakes can register in advance online, saving time on the day. Advance registration will close on 29th March at midday. On the day, registration will be between 2pm and 4.45pm with the competition starting 5pm in the Jaguar Style Stakes Arena. All entrants must be at least 21 years old. The winner must be over 25 and a UAE resident to qualify for the Jaguar XK convertible prizes.
This year, the full Jaguar line-up will be on display in the Jaguar Style Stakes Arena - including the newly styled and award winning XFR, the XKR-S Jaguar's fastest production sports car, the flagship XJ and the prize car, the Jaguar XK convertible. Adjacent to the arena, the Jaguar Style Stakes Lounge will be hosting VIPs, exclusively by invite only.
