DSC exam postponement worries private schools

Managements fear teachers will extend leave further to prepare for the exams The extension of examination dates of District Selection Committee (DSC) might have brought cheers to the aspirants, but the same has left the private schools in a quandary as they fear that their teachers will extend their leave further to prepare for the DSC exams. Schedule hit Teachers in private schools across the State are already on ‘vacation' severely affecting teaching. Now, with the extension of District Selection Committee dates, school managements fear that schools will continue to suffer even at the start of the new academic year. “It is a known fact that thousands of teachers in private schools are preparing for the DSC exam abstaining from duties and our academic schedule is severely hit,” says S. Sreenivas Reddy, president, Andhra Pradesh Recognised Schools Managements Association (APRSMA). He said with the District Selection Committee now re-scheduled to be held in August, teachers will not join schools in June when the next academic year begins. One lakh teachers Most of the teachers have either taken leave or have left the jobs for their preparation. Small towns are severely affected with their absence and parents are putting pressure on the school managements. Rough estimates put the figure of around one lakh teachers in 25,000 private schools ‘missing' from the classes now and preparing for the DSC exam. Mr. Reddy appealed to the government to complete the process of the examinations and selections by June this year so that at least the next academic year can be saved. Or else, students in private schools are bound to suffer next year too.
