Hawaii police seek answers after child's fingers found in dumpster

HONOLULU – Police in Hawaii are asking for the public's help after a child's fingers were found in a dumpster behind a low-income housing complex, KHON reports. A woman found the fingers last month in a plastic bag behind the Kukui Gardens Housing Complex in Liliha. Tests determined the fingers belonged to a child, and sources say they suspect the child is a female between two-and-a-half and four years old. Police aren't sure how long the fingers had been in the dumpster. "I have not seen anything in my 25 years ... like this," Sgt. Kim Buffett with Honolulu CrimeStoppers said. Two complete fingers and four partial fingers belonging to the same child were found. Police searched the area and local hospitals, but were unable to come up with any leads. "We're really heavily relying on the public out there, because someone has to know something," Buffet said. "It's not normal to find fingers in a dumpster.” Kukui Gardens residents say they are disturbed by the discovery. Monimer Serna called it "scary," while neighbor Noelani Dilyard said hearing about the found fingers gave her "chicken skin." "It's creepy. It really is," Dilyard told Hawaii News Now.
