COLUMBUS, Ohio – Veteran
Democratic U.S. Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Marcy Kaptur are each
enjoying strong showings in their home counties in the battle for a
newly drawn Ohio congressional district.
Kucinich was leading by 1 percentage point
in early returns. He was receiving the support of three-quarters of
voters in his home county, Cuyahoga, while a slightly higher percentage
of northwest Toledo voters was supporting Kaptur.
Toledo real estate agent Steve Kraus was leading Joseph Wurzelbacher on the Republican side of the race. Wurzelbacher gained the nickname "Joe the Plumber" during the 2008 presidential election.
The winner of the Democratic primary is
favored to win in the fall. The newly drawn district connecting
Cleveland to Toledo along the Lake Erie lakeshore tilts toward
Democrats.
