"Music is a universal language. It can bring us together in peace, love, unity and respect. UMEK stands for all that."
- Danilo Türk, Former President of Slovenia
Known
for making sounds halfway between techno and tech house, there are very
few DJs nowadays who produce full length albums and weekly radio shows,
tour around the world, and manage their own music label. But somehow,
the Slovenian born producer and DJ finds the time to do it all and more.
For over 20 years UMEK has continued to be one of the most important players in the global techno scene. In 2007, he started 1605 Music Therapy - Sixteenofive, which has expanded into an extremely successful radio show called, “Behind the Iron Curtain.”
This month, UMEK will be making numerous state side appearances from coast-to-coast! Starting in NYC, he will play a highly anticipated show with Pleasurekraft at Webster Hall on March 9th. Recently, UMEK and Pleasurekraft collaborated on a track called "Korea" - listen to the single HERE! The following weekend UMEK will make his first mainstage appearance at an Insomniac festival in SoCal’s Beyond Wonderland.
Finishing
off in Miami, catch the US debut of 1605's Label Showcase at Mokai
Lounge on South Beach; featuring UMEK along with the label's best
up-and-coming talent such as Stefano Noferini, Pleasurekraft, Anthony
Attalla and Mike Valle.
In between shows, UMEK is working on a Toolroom Records 2.0 compilation, and later this year we can also expect the release of his fourth album (details will be revealed closer to the release date). He just had two very successful gigs at Ultra Chile and Buenos Aires, and after Ultra Miami he will go on to perform at Ultra Europe in Split, Croatia.
After signing a deal with AM Only for North American dates, fans can expect more shows around the country. See below to check out his upcoming US tour dates for March 2013.
