General Civil Aviation Authority signs agreement with Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has entered into a mutual agreement with Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies LLC (ADAT) on cooperation relating to aircraft accident and incident investigation.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed yesterday during Dubai Airshow 2011, aims to enable the GCAA to utilise the expertise of ADAT as well as the high tech equipment available within its facilities and workshops for the testing and microscopic examinations of certain damaged aircraft pieces as picked up from the accident site, those advanced examinations will be a robust data source of information for determining the contribution of the failed piece to the accident through knowing the mode of failure and the stresses or manufacturing flaws that were affecting it before its collapse.

The examinations would cover high range of pieces such as electronic and mechanical components, wheels and tyres, instruments, structural debris, etc which will introduce a good opportunity to expand the GCAA's abilities in fulfilling its mandate in aircraft accident investigation up-to-the best international standards.

In addition to that, the GCAA had entered into MoUs with more than one international organization such as the Canadian Transport Safety Board (TSB) and the French Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BEA) and is in the final touches of signing MoUs with local civil defense and police authorities for the purpose of improving the accident site management.

Having MoUs is an activity planned by the GCAA as part of its strategic plan initiatives in creating more advanced, communicative and responsive safety environment through partnership and alliances with national and international stakeholders.
