Passenger demand leaps 14% at Cebu Pacific

Cebu Pacific flew close to 12 million passengers through 2011, an increase of 14% over 10.5 million passengers in 2010.

Passenger growth was mainly driven by a 22% increase in international passengers, catered for with additional flights to Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Brunei, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh, Seoul and Bangkok.

Meanwhile, the airline flew 9.22 million domestic passengers, up by 12% from 8.23 million in 2010. Cebu attributes these increases to capacity additions to key destinations, lower fares due to the unbundling of baggage allowance, and the arrival of five brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft in 2011.

Demand growth was carefully matched by additional capacity as the budget carrier achieved a combined average load factor of 86% across all routes, up from 85% in 2012.

With new routes to Hanoi and Xiamen, as well as international flights connecting Boracay to Hong Kong opening in March, Cebu expects to carry 14 million passengers this year.
