An obituary for a 94-year-old great-grandmother in Florida has been made famous on the Internet after inflammatory language in the notice exposed a bitter family dispute.
The Feb. 14 death notice for Josie Anello, of Tampa, began like any other, describing the woman as a "loving and faithful wife" who died peacefully in her home on Feb. 11, the Tampa Bay Times reported Thursday.
But the obituary's third line revealed a longstanding family feud that has now made it a hit on blogs and social media sites.
"She is survived by her Son, 'A.J.', who loved and cared for her; Daughter 'Ninfa', who betrayed her trust, and Son 'Peter', who broke her heart," the notice read, according to the newspaper.
Anello’s son, 63-year-old Angelo "A.J." Anello, who wrote and placed the obituary, accuses his 65-year-old sister, Ninfa Simpson, of stealing from their mother, the newspaper reported.
The alleged theft by Simpson included using her mother’s Social Security checks to go on vacations with her husband in Missouri and Alaska.
But Simpson denies Anello’s claim, telling the newspaper that "My brother is not telling the truth. He's having his moment of revenge."
Both siblings agreed that their oldest brother, Peter, has been estranged from the family for more than 25 years, the newspaper reported.
