Traditional clothes dominate Filmfare red carpet

Myriad colour sarees and multi-layered kurtas dominated the red carpet of the 56th Filmfare Awards on Saturday night, when celebrities came to attend the coveted and the oldest film award ceremony of Bollywood at the Yash Raj Film studios.Going Indian was the trend noticed with most actresses opting for traditional wear. While white was the chosen colour of the day with many actresses going in for it, other shades were not left behind either.

Aishwarya Rai made a pretty picture in a plain off-white saree. Sharing her colour were Isha Koppikhar and Mini Mathur, who were also dressed in white, sporting the Indian garb. On the other hand, Urmila Matondkar looked stunning in an elaborate white net anarkali suit.

Vidya Balan, who has shown her saree fetish on a number of occasions and has been spotted in only this outfit in her every appearance, did not disappoint yet again and walked the red carpet in a black saree with gold work designed by her favourite designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

Dia Mirza too sported a black number but it was a concept saree by Gaurav Gupta, which she had coupled with a black net blouse.

Apart from that Shreya Saran, Poonam Dhillon and Aarti Chabbria, flaunted the peacock colours of blue and green, while Priety Zinta wore a reddish maroon net saree with a velvet blouse and Payal Rohatgi stuck to a peach one, coupled with a red bindi.

However, Rekha, like every year, stole the show, dressed in a rich gold saree and a parrot green blouse.

Others, who sported Indian wear were Raveena Tandon in a black and brown anarkali suit, Kajol in fuscia and blue, asymmetrical suit by Manish Malhotra, Kalki Koechlin in a black and beige suit, Madhuri Dixit in a bright red anarkali suit and Katrina Kaif in a beautiful peachish pink lehenga and long net coat with silver work.

Even though traditional wear was in prominence, western wear too made an appearance with few actresses looking stunning in evening gowns of a range of colours.

Genelia D'souza, Neha Dhupia and newcomer Sandeepa Dhar showed their preference for the colour blue and were seen wearing long flowy gowns of different styles and shades at the event.

While Sridevi walked in a deep purple, backless gown, Sameera Reddy posed for the shutterbugs in a beige shimmery number with a touch of emerald green. On the other hand, Sonakshi Sinha opted for a plain green off-sholder gown and Prachi Desai stuck to a peach train dress.

Finally Malaika Arora Khan looked ravishing as always in a white gown with a touch of gold on the shoulder and Mugdha Godse in a rust yellow long dress with copper work.
