2012: Big Bollywood releases

Director duo Abbas-Mustan's 'multi-starrer thriller' formula works most of the times. Players starring Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and others will hit the theares on January 6, making it the first release of 2012.

What's hot: Bipasha Basu's bikini sequence and some steamy songs.

What's not: Repetition of the trite thriller formula.

KAHAANI (Release Date: January 20)
After the sucess of The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan would be back to create silver screen magic with Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani. The film will see the actor play the character of a pregnant woman in search of her missing husband.

Gossip: Reportedly, the film is partially inspired by the Hollywood blockbuster Kill Bill, which was directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Trivia: Produced by Sujoy Ghosh, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Pen India Private Limited, Kahaani has been extensively shot in Kolkata, which incidentally is Vidya’s favourite city.

AGNEEPATH (Release Date: January 26)
Produced by Karan Johar and directed by Karan Malhotra, the film is the modern version of Amitabh Bachchan's legendary hit by the same name. The film hits the theatres on Republic Day.

Plus point: The film looks like a complete Masala fare.

What's hot: Katrina Kaif's Chikni Chameli item number is already making waves.

What's not: It's a remake, so nothing new in the storyline.

Agneepath

EK MAIN AUR EKK TU (Release Date: February 10)
Directed by Shakun Batra, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu tells the story of a couple, played by Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan, who accidentally get married after having a few drinks on Christmas eve. Will the marriage last?

What's hot: Fresh jodi of Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan

What's not: Do we trust new directors until they prove their worth?

BLOOD MONEY (Release Date: March 23)
Directed by Vishal Mahadkar, Blood Money stars Kunal Khemu and Amrita Puri.

HOUSEFULL 2 (Release Date: April 5)
Sajid Khan is back with the sequel of his superhit film Housefull. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the comic caper pairs up Akshay Kumar with Asin Thottumkal. The film also stars Ritesh Deshmukh, Mithun Chakraborty, John Abraham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Zarine Khan, among others.

Plus point: The film has a brand advantage.

Minut point: It has been very long since Akshay Kumar has delivered at the box office.

ROWDY RATHORE (Release Date: June 15)
Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and directed by Prabhu Deva, the film has Akshay Kumar in double role. The female lead is Sonakshi Sinha. Rowdy Rathore is based on the Telugu film Vikramarkudu.

Storyline: Akshay Kumar plays the role of a mastermind thief and a small-time crook, who is mistaken by a young girl as her father. He then notices that her father is his lookalike, IPS Officer Rathore who has recently been murdered. Rowdy Rathore focuses on how the main lead gets revenge on the killers of his lookalike.

Plus point: Action is Akshay's forte

Minus point: Will it be an overkill for policewalla hero for audience?

BOL BACHCHAN (Release Date: July 6)
An action-comedy, the film is directed by Rohit Shetty, who is riding high on the wave of Singham and Golmaal 3. It stars Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Asin and Prachi Desai.

Plus point: Rohit Shetty, Rohit Shetty and Rohit Shetty

Minus point: Abhishek Bachchan's bad form

DABANGG 2 (Release Date: December 2012)
Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha would be back with the second installment of Dabangg in December 2012. Arbaaz Khan would replace Abhinav Kashyap as a director.

Plus point: Do we need to say anything?

Minus point: Will Arbaaz Khan be able to re-create Abhinav's magic?

RACE 2 (Release Date: November 30, 2012)
Another action thriller from Abbas-Mustan's stable, Race 2 is a sequel to the 2008 hit film, Race. The film stars Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Ameesha Patel.

What's hot: The film has a brand advantage.

What's not: Ameesha Patel's bad form

RAAZ 3 (Release Date: 31 Aug 2012)
Directed by Vikram Bhatt, Raaz 3 would be back in a new avatar, this time with Emraan Hashmi.

What's exciting: The film is a 3D.

What's hot: With the success of Haunted and 1920, Vikram Bhatt has learnt the art of making a perfect horror mix.
