The smartphone and tablet computer app, which will be fully branded as UBM and International Confex 2012, will help and inform visitors before, during and after the event and will also maximise marketing opportunities for exhibitors.
The easy to use app from Melville Data Services works across all major smartphone and tablet computer platforms including Apple’s iPhone and iPad, Blackberry smartphones and Android devices, and it can be downloaded from online app stores.
Visitors can use the Melville Follow Me App to plan their visit and schedule meetings with its integrated and personalised event calendar, and use the interactive floorplan to plot their routes around the event and mark individual exhibition stands. The app connects to LinkedIn and other social networks, helping with networking at the event. App content is constantly updated and includes the latest show news, pre-show bulletins, reports from the show, post-show materials and RSS feeds. The app also includes an exhibitor catalogue, where exhibitors can upload company details, photos, logos and product information, as well as their stand details, with a link to an interactive floorplan. Visitors can download exhibitor documentation into a virtual briefcase.
The Melville Follow Me App works as a standalone application and can run ‘native’ so that it can be used even when there is no phone or WiFi signal within the exhibition hall. The app automatically updates itself when it detects a signal.
Melville chief information officer Glenn Batty said: “The Melville Follow Me App has advantages for everyone – it allows Confex to enhance the event for exhibitors and attendees alike; it gives the exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their products and services pre- and post show as well as on site; and it helps the visitors to plan their trip to the event and use their time in the best possible way. The adoption of our app at Confex has also given us the opportunity to showcase it live at a busy and thriving show to exhibitors and event organisers alike.”
The app has potential for additional capabilities, for example, it could be used as a show floor navigation tool for larger shows, especially useful at multi-hall exhibitions, or include schedules for seminars and biographies for speakers, with opportunities to provide feedback after the session. There will be demonstrations of all Melville Follow Me App’s functionality on stand B1880 during the show.
The Melville Follow Me App for International Confex 2012 can be downloaded from iTunes App Store and other app stores, and works on the iPad and on all smartphones irrespective of platform. International Confex 2012 will be held at ExCeL in London 6-8 March 2012.
